Canadian Solar incorporated in Canada in 2001, but mainly manufactures its panels in China. Founded in 2001, it was successfully listed on NASDAQ Exchange by November 2006.
To date, Canadian Solar has established seven wholly-owned manufacturing subsidiaries in China, manufacturing ingot, wafer, solar cells and solar modules. In 2009, they opened a US Branch in San Ramon, California and a PV Research center in Suzhou, China.
Canadian Solar modules boast record tolerance ratios and have a 25-year performance warranty. Having passed a mechanical load test of 5400Pa (113 pounds per square foot), instead of the normal 2400 Pa (50 pounds per square foot), Canadian Solar panels will withstand heavier snow loads and higher wind-pressure than other solar panels.
As a result of a partnership they made in September 2009 with a research center In the Netherlands, they will soon be using metal wrap-through ("MWT") cells on Canadian Solar's panels. Canadian Solar is expecting to have higher efficiency ratings on their panels as a result.
Canadian Solar is the first manufacturer in the PV industry to apply state of the art automotive quality management system (ISO:TS16949) in the production of their panels.
