Three-phase Electrical Distribution
One of the main concepts to understand when looking at commercial inverters is Phase Three electric power. It is the most common and efficient method of distributing large volumes of electricity by national grids worldwide. In a three-phase system, power is efficiently carried by a three-conductor system handling three alternating currents of the same frequency, which reach their instantaneous peak values at different times. The method is widely used in commercial applications due to its favorable properties in powering generators and motors.

These inverters are typically used for applications requiring variable frequency drive and high power applications, such as High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power transmission. Variable frequency drive is a system for controlling motor speeds by modulating the electrical frequency supplied to the load.
