Solon manufactures high quality American-made photovoltaic
mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline solar panels for individual homes, commercial and power plant applications. Their high efficiency panels are known for hefty load capacities, optimal power output, and effective response to low light conditions.
Solon was founded in Berlin, Germany in 1997. It has since established subsidiaries in Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the US. The US branch incorporated in 2006 in Tucson, Arizona and began manufacturing solar panels in 2008.
Solon made its strategic move to the US because they view it as the fastest growing market for photovoltaic modules in the world. Their new facility is capable of manufacturing solar panels for up to 100 megawatts per year, which is about two-thirds of the 2007 residential market. You can also be sure that the panel you’re buying is “Made in the USA". While the modules are designed in Germany, all panels manufactured in the US are sold within the country.
On an environmental platform, Solon walks their talk. Their aim is to protect the Earth's climate not only through the use of their own products, but also in the way they manufacture them. Solon was instrumental in founding, pvcycle.org, a non-profit organization that aims to make the photovoltaic industry “double green”. Among a long list of "green” endeavors, they have implemented a recycling program whereby any packaging used in the shipment of solar panels to a jobsite, is sent back to Solon to be re-used in the next solar panel shipment.
Solon has recently received some press attention for their slogan “Don’t leave the planet to the stupid”. Whether this is an awkward translation or just a bit strange, per a Solon spokesperson, it just means that Solon aims to do everything “smart” whether they are dealing with people or designing and manufacturing solar products!
