ME-BMK Battery Monitor Kit - No Shunt
To ensure your batteries perform satisfactorily and have a long life, they need to be properly maintained and charged. If you're using a Magnum Energy ME, MS, MS-AE or RD inverter, monitoring your battery bank is easy with Magnum Energy's Battery Monitor Kit (ME-BMK). This kit acts as a “fuel gauge” for your batteries, monitoring their state of charge (SOC) and then providing this information in an easy-to-understand display via the ME-RC remote. With accurate SOC readings, you can avoid unnecessary battery recharging, saving on fuel and long-term maintenance costs.
There are several other monitoring devices on the market that measure different aspects of a battery bank. The DC Voltmeter measures Open Circuit Voltage. It is not completely accurate and requires the batteries be at “rest” when in use. A hydrometer is another device that measure the concentration of battery electrolyte in each individual cell and compare the readings with the OCV values from the battery manufactures. An amp-hour meter is an electronic measuring device that uses a precision shunt to calculate the amp-hours going in (charging) and coming out (discharging) a battery. This meter tracks the amp-hour usage and compares it against the amp-hour capacity of the battery to determine its charge condition.
The Magnum Energy Battery Monitor actually combines the advantages of these devices with additional information such as monitoring battery temperature and calculating battery efficiencies to provide an easy and accurate means to determine the battery’s State of Charge (SOC) condition.
